THE STORY OF HOW I STARTED BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY
I started boudoir back in 2019 I think it was- my best friend at the time was getting married and she brought up the idea. Like most people back then, I had this weird stigma against shooting boudoir photos, but figured why not.
The first thing I did was venture over to Pinterest, looking for all sorts of inspo. I put together a collection of photos that I thought would be easy to recreate, and noticed the emphasis on details, which is something I already love to document!
We shot in her apartment, and by the end of it we both had fallen in love with the process. “You have an eye for this,” is what she told me when she saw the photos. Most of them were poses that were relatively simple and classy, and they leaned a bit on the conservative side. She was getting married soon, so she had her veil and a bouquet and some other wedding elements that we played with, which made things seem a little less scary.
Soon after her shoot, I decided that the experience was actually kind of fun, and ended up offering sessions for $200 in a local Facebook group. This little side of my business blew up and ever since I’ve been evolving and changing.
I’ve been on that side of the camera twice, and have so quickly realized the amount of bravery it takes, stripping down in front of a total stranger, but something about it is so wildly empowering. Leaving my first session, I felt like I could take on the world, and after seeing the photos, my reaction was literally, “OMG THAT’S ME?!”
That’s exactly how I hope to make my girls feel every second that they’re with me. It’s what’s kept me in the boudoir space for 4 years, and why I don’t think I’ll ever stop. There’s something about the moment where a client just completely lets go of all inhibition, says f*ck it, and really starts feeling a new level of confidence. It’s like a switch that goes off, and I can literally see the moment it happens- it’s pure magic.
Boudoir allows me to be creative, and reminds me to slow down and shoot with intention. It’s unlike any other art form. It’s the most incredibly rewarding thing. And it’s just so damn fun!
I’m in love with where my work is at now- this casual, cool girl, styled with an edge type of feel. It’s what I’ve been needing and striving for since 2019, and it makes me so excited every single time someone connects with it and wants to book, because it’s a genuine reflection of who I am.
If you’ve been around for awhile, I am so thankful that you’ve stayed through the changes and the constant reinventions- I think this era is here to stay.
